Playstation Portable

The PlayStation Portable (officially abbreviated PSP) is a handheld game console manufactured and marketed by Sony Computer Entertainment. Development of the console was announced during E3 2003, and it was unveiled on May 11, 2004 at a Sony press conference before E3 2004. The system was released in Japan on December 12, 2004, in North America on March 24, 2005, and in the PAL region on September 1, 2005.

The PlayStation Portable is the first handheld video game console to use an optical disc format, Universal Media Disc (UMD), as its primary storage medium. Other distinguishing features of the console include its large viewing screen, robust multi-media capabilities, and connectivity with the PlayStation 3, other PSPs, and the Internet.

Despite the console's superior computing power and multimedia capabilities, sales have (with cyclical exceptions) lagged behind its main competitor, the Nintendo DS. Nevertheless, the console is "the most successful non-Nintendo handheld game system ever sold". After the release of a remodeled, slimmer, and lighter version of the PlayStation Portable, appropriately titled Slim and Lite, in early September 2007, sales quadrupled in the United Kingdom the following week and increased by nearly 200% in North America for the month of October.

The PSP received generally favorable reviews soon after launch and most reviewers cited similar strengths and weaknesses. CNET awarded the system an 8.1 out of 10 and praised the console's powerful hardware and its multimedia capabilities while lamenting the lack of a screen guard or a guard over the reading surface of UMD cartridges. Engadget applauded the console's design, stating that "it is definitely one well-designed, slick little handheld". PC World commended Sony's decision to include built-in Wi-fi capability, but criticized the lack of a web browser at launch and the glare and smudges that resulted from the console's shiny exterior. Most reviewers also praised the console's large and bright viewing screen and its audio and video playback capabilities. In 2008, Time listed the PSP as a "gotta have travel gadget", citing the console's movie selection, telecommunications capability, and upcoming GPS functionality.

The PSP is currently available in eleven colors. These include piano black, ceramic white, ice silver, mystic silver, rose pink, deep red, champagne gold, felicia blue, mint green, lavender purple, and metallic blue. Only the piano black model is available in all regions. There is also a special edition model "Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops" camouflage PSP.

MPO Plus

On July 17, 2007, Konami announced Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus, a stand-alone expansion of the original game, focused on online play. Among its new features, the expansion includes new characters such as Genome and Gurlukovich soldiers from MGS and MGS2 respectively. There are also new missions, tutorials for beginners, as well as a new single-player mode called Infinity Mission.

In Japan, Portable Ops Plus was released on September 20, 2007 in two formats: the expansion on its own and as a deluxe package that includes the original game and the expansion. The North American version was released on November 13, 2007. The European version was released on March 28, 2008.

The story mode within Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops has been removed, and a new single player mode called Infinity Mission has been added, where the player must go through randomly chosen maps, looking for the advance point within the level, using the surround indicator to help them. This adds some extra difficulty, because the surround indicator could show an enemy, or the advance point. Within this mode, there are also Kerotan, which make a small croak sound, as well as briefly showing on the surround indicator with every croak. The game places an emphasis on online gameplay, with the modes from the original being used with their + counterparts, such as "Cyber-Survival+" and "Infrastructure+". During online gameplay, rookie players will have a rookie mark, reducing the damage they get, and increasing the damage they give, making online gameplay easier for less skilled players.

Memorable MPO Quotes

Python : [Gets shot] Hmm, feels good to me. How about you ?
[returns fire]

Soldiers : [Injured] Go on without me, Boss...
Naked Snake : Quit your whining. The bullets went straight through. Now get up!

Naked Snake : The meaning of justice can change from one day to the next. A professional soldier never brings justice into the mission. Politics are fickle, they change with the times. So long as we remain loyal to our countries, soldiers like us need nothing to believe in.

Gene : What's it going to be? Loyalty to your country, or loyalty to yourself? Your country, or your old mentor? The mission, or your beliefs? Your duty to your unit, or your personal feelings? Look at how much you've lost already! What kind of country deserves this much loyalty, Snake?

Gene : Join me Jack! I will give you your calling!
Naked Snake: I'll find my own!

Gene : Go forth... and find your own... calling.

Null : Why do you live? What do you wish to accomplish by living? Why won't you die, Snake?

Elisa/Ursula : [final words] The futures we saw were one and the same. Snake, you will destroy Metal Gear, and you will create a new Metal Gear in it's place. Your children; Les Infant Terribles. Snake, your son will bring the world to ruin. Your son... will save... the world.

MPO Weapons

Mk22

The Mk.22 Mod 0 "Hush Puppy" is a Smith & Wesson Model 39 modified for military purposes. It is a mil-spec pistol firing the 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge and is capable of attaching a silencer. The Mk.22 was used by special forces units during the Vietnam War; regular troops were generally issued the older and more powerful M1911A1 as a sidearm.

Snake's Mk.22 uses 9x19mm tranquilizer darts instead of lethal rounds. It holds eight rounds in a single-stack magazine and uses a slide-lock mechanism, enhancing the suppression effect but reducing the rate of fire. The Mk.22 has been fitted with taller iron sights so the gun can be used more easily with a suppressor. Like the M1911A1, the Mk.22 can be used in conjunction with a knife for CQC.

M1911

The M1911 is a single-action, semi-automatic pistol (handgun) chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge. It was designed by John M. Browning, and was the standard-issue side arm for the United States armed forces from 1911 to 1985, and is still carried by some U.S. forces. It was widely used in World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Its formal designation as of 1940 was Automatic Pistol, Caliber .45, M1911 for the original Model of 1911 or Automatic Pistol, Caliber .45, M1911A1 for the M1911A1, adopted in 1924. The designation changed to Pistol, Caliber .45, Automatic, M1911A1 in the Vietnam era. In total, the United States procured around 2.7 million M1911 and M1911A1 pistols during its service life.

SAA (Single Action Army)

The Colt Single Action Army Revolver is a powerful single action revolver holding six rounds of .45 Long Colt ammunition. The Single Action Army was designed for the US cavalry by Colt's Manufacturing Company and adopted in 1873.

Revolver Ocelot adopted this sidearm as his weapon of choice after his semiautomatic Makarov pistol jammed during combat with Naked Snake. Snake advised Ocelot his shooting style would better suit a revolver, and sure enough, Ocelot took his advice and became a master with the Single Action Army. This weapon was responsible for the loss of Snake's right eye during his time in captivity at Groznyj Grad during the Cold War.

MAC-10

The MAC-10 (Military Armament Corporation Model 10, officially the M10) is a highly compact, blowback operated machine pistol developed by Gordon B. Ingram in 1964.

It is a simple, low-cost design with few moving parts, making it easy to manufacture and maintain.

The compactness and high rates of fire for these weapons (1,090 to 1,145 rpm for the M-10 and 1,200 rpm or more for the M-11 / M-11A1) worked against them. Their small size made them difficult to fire accurately in full auto, and this, when combined with their high rate of fire, made control challenging; this was a key factor in their never finding much success with the military. However, they did see limited service in Vietnam with Special Forces.

Besides Military Armament Corporation, MAC-10s and MAC-10 parts have been produced by RPB Industries, Cobray Company, Jersey Arms Works, and Section Five Firearms.

UZI

The Uzi is a related family of open bolt, blowback-operated submachine guns. Smaller variants are considered to be machine pistols. The Uzi was one of the first weapons to use a telescoping bolt design which allows for the magazine to be housed in the pistol grip for a shorter weapon.

The first Uzi submachine gun was designed by Major Uziel Gal in the late 1940s. The prototype was finished in 1950; first introduced to IDF special forces in 1954, the weapon was placed into general issue two years later. The Uzi has found use as a personal defense weapon by rear-echelon troops, officers, artillery troops and tankers, as well as a frontline weapon by elite light infantry assault forces.

Over its service lifetime, the Uzi was manufactured by Israel Military Industries, FN Herstal, and other manufacturers.

Scorpion

The Škorpion vz. 61 is a Czechoslovakian 7.65 mm submachine gun by the Česká Zbrojovka arms factory in Uherský Brod. Although it was developed for use with security forces, the submachine gun was also accepted into service with the Czechoslovak Army, as a personal sidearm for lower-ranking army staff, vehicle drivers, armored vehicle personnel and special forces. Currently the weapon is in use with the armed forces of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Angola, Croatia, Egypt, Iraq, Libya, Mozambique and Uganda. Production rights to the submachine gun were also acquired by the Yugoslavian Crvena Zastava factory , which license-built the weapon in the 1980s as the M84. It features a synthetic pistol grip compared to the original version (a civilian, semi-automatic pistol version was also produced, known as the M84A, also available in 9x17mm Short).

Ak-47

The AK-47 is a 7.62 mm assault rifle developed in the Soviet Union by Mikhail Kalashnikov in two versions: the fixed stock AK-47 and the AKS-47.

Design work on the AK began in 1944. In 1946 the rifle was presented for official military trials, and a year later the fixed stock version was introduced into service with select units of the Red Army (the folding stock model was developed later). The AK-47 was officially accepted by the Soviet Armed Forces in 1949. It is also used by the majority of the member states of the former Warsaw Pact. The AK-47 was also used as a basis for the development of many other types of individual and crew-served firearms.

It was one of the first true assault rifles and, due to its durability, low production cost and ease of use, remains the most widely used assault rifle in the world - so much so that more AK-type rifles have been produced than all other assault rifles combined.

M16A1

The M16A1 started out in the late fifties as the brainchild of aerospace enginee Eugene Stoner, who together with the Fairchild aircraft corporation came up with a series of designs under the division of "Armalite". The intention was to create innovative firearm designs that incorporated many of the new materials being used in aerospace design, such as fibreglass and machined aluminium forgings.

XM177E2

The XM117E2 is the designation for the second version of the CAR-15 Commando carbine purchased by the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. It was basically a carbine version of the XM16E1, using the same basic receiver and parts with a shortened stock and barrel.

During the Vietnam War, American soldiers encountered problems with their full-sized M14 and M16 rifles. Their size made it difficult to both carry and aim them in the jungles covering most of Vietnam. Because encounters with the enemy in this thick foliage often were short-range, quick firefights between small units, soldiers needed a weapon that could be quickly aimed and fired, rather than long-range accuracy. In 1966, to alleviate this problem, the U.S. Army purchased and issued Colt 609 Commando's (Army classification XM117E1) to front-line troops. Several problems were found with the carbine, including double feeds (also a problem with early M16's and aggravated by the shortened gas-porting system), loud report and bright muzzle flash (caused by the shortened barrel allowing more propellant to exit the barrel before burning), barrel fouling, and accuracy.

In 1967, to counter some of the defects found in the E1, the MACV SOG purchased 510 Colt 629 Commando's, classifying them as the XM117E2. The major difference was a longer 11.5 inch barrel compared to the E1's 10 inches. This served to lessen the noise and muzzle flash, although the other problems found in the E1 were not fixed.

SVD

The SVD (Russian: Снайперская винтовка Драгунова, Snayperskaya vintovka Dragunova), "Dragunov sniper rifle", is a 7.62 mm semi-automatic sniper rifle, developed in the former Soviet Union. It was selected as the winner of a contest that included three competing designs: the first was a rifle designed by Sergei Simonov (known as the SSV-58), the second – by Alexander Konstantinov (prototype designated 2B-W10) and the third rifle, the SVD-137 was a design by Evgeny Dragunov. Extensive testing of the rifles in variable environmental conditions resulted in E. F. Dragunov’s design being accepted into service in 1963. At the same time an initial pre-production batch of 200 rifles was assembled, and from 1964 serial production was carried out at Izhmash. Since then, the SVD has become the standard squad support weapon of several countries, including those of the former Warsaw Pact, among them Poland (since 1966). Licensed production of the rifle was established in China (Type 79 and Type 85) and Iraq.

Mosin Nagant

The Mosin-Nagant is a bolt-action, internal magazine fed, military rifle that was used by the armed forces of the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union and various Eastern bloc nations. Also known as the Three-Line Rifle it was the first to use the 7.62x54mmR cartridge. As a front-line rifle, the Mosin-Nagant served in various forms from 1891 until the 1960s in many Eastern European nations, when the sniper rifle variant was replaced by the SVD . The Mosin-Nagant is still used in many conflicts due to its ruggedness and the vast number produced during World War II.

M37

The M37 is an American-made shotgun. First appearing in 1937, the Ithaca M37 is sometimes called the "Featherlight" due to its light weight. MGS3's M37 has a sawed-off barrel and stock, further reducing the weight to 2.9 kg (6.4 lbs), which is exceptionally light for a shotgun. It carries four 12-gauge shells in a tube magazine and operates using a pump action, meaning there is a delay in between shots. Many guards carry the M37, and Snake can even use one himself. The M37 is extremely powerful, capable of blowing enemies away and doing serious damage. Most guards will be killed in one blast, but the shot's effectiveness decreases over range. The Pain's hornet shield can be penetrated by three shotgun blasts, leaving him vulnerable. The M37 also has a slow reload rate and this can be a deadly giveaway in combat since it only carries 4 rounds. A strategy to prevent such reload is to quickly un-equip it and re-equip it again which then is present with a full magazine.

M870

The Remington Model 870 is a U.S.-made pump-action shotgun manufactured by Remington Arms Company, Inc. It is widely used by the public for target shooting, hunting, and self-defense. It is also commonly used by U.S. police and the U.S. military.

The Remington 870 was the fourth major design in a series of Remington pump shotguns. John Pedersen designed the fragile Model 10 (and later the improved model 29). Working with John Browning, Pedersen also helped design the Model 17 which was adopted by Ithaca as the Ithaca 37 and also served as the basis for the Remington 31. The Model 31 was well-liked, but struggled for sales in the shadow of the Winchester Model 12. Remington sought to correct that by introducing in 1950 a modern, streamlined, rugged, reliable, and relatively inexpensive shotgun, the 870 Wingmaster.

Sales of the 870 have been steady. They reached 2 million guns by 1973 (ten times the number of Model 31 shotguns it replaced). By 1996, spurred by the basic "Express" model, sales topped seven million guns. The 870 holds the record for best-selling pump gun in U.S. history.

M63
The Stoner M63 is an American-made modular system weapon. It was designed in 1963 by Eugene Stoner, the inventor of the previous M16 rifle. The Stoner M63 was designed to be able to change parts easily to suit different roles, ranging from a compact carbine to a full assault rifle to a light machine gun to even a mounted medium machine gun.

Snake finds the light machine gun variant during Operation Snake Eater. It fires 5.56 x 45mm ammunition from a 100-round disintegrating belt. The M63 can only be fired in full-automatic mode. It is very heavy, weighing 4.5 kg (9.9 lbs), the second heaviest weapon Snake can carry during Operation Snake Eater after the RPG-7. It takes about 5 seconds to reload. The M63 can only be fired from the hip, making it less accurate than the AK-47 and the XM16E1, but the huge, 100-round belt makes it a good "run and gun" weapon. Despite such poor accuracy, it posseses deadly firepower, able to decimate entire attack teams and is one of the recommended weapons during the GRU's pursuit against Snake and EVA in MGS3.

RPG-7

The RPG-7 is a widely-produced, portable, shoulder-launched, anti-tank rocket propelled grenade weapon. Originally the RPG-7 and its predecessor, the RPG-2, were designed by the Soviet Union, and now manufactured by the Bazalt company. The weapon has the GRAU index 6G3.

The ruggedness, simplicity, low cost, and effectiveness of the RPG-7 have made it the most widely used anti-tank weapon in the world. Currently around 40 countries use the weapon, and it is manufactured in a number of variants by nine countries. It is also popular with irregular and guerrilla forces. The RPG has been used in almost all conflicts across all continents since the mid-1960s from the Vietnam War to the present day War in Afghanistan and Iraq War.

Spetsnaz Knife

A specialized ballistic knife was developed for the use of Spetsnaz. A powerful spring installed within the grip allows the blade to be ejected. Another form of Spetsnaz knife is the NR-2 bayonet with a built in 7.62 mm hole for use of a 7.62 caliber weapon and not much else is known about it or why there is a 7.62 hole (a less used caliber of the Russian military). Some speculate it's for the OTs-14 Groza, PKM and the old RPK still in service today. The PKM and RPK are light machine guns.

Survival Knife

Survival knives are knives intended for survival purposes when lost in a wilderness environment. Military units issue some type of survival knife to pilots in the event they may be shot down. Hunters, hikers, and outdoor sport enthusiasts use survival knives. Some survival knives are heavy-bladed and thick; others are lightweight or fold in order to save weight and bulk as part of a larger survival kit. Their functions often include serving as a hunting knife.

Machete

The machete is a large cleaver-like cutting tool. The blade is typically 50 to 60 centimetres (20 to 24 in) long and usually under 3 millimetres (0.12 in) thick. In the English language, an equivalent term is matchet,[1] though the name 'machete' is more commonly known. In the English-speaking Caribbean such as Grenada and in Trinidad and Tobago, the term "cutlass" is used for these agricultural tools.

Liquid Nitrogen Grenade

Does small amounts of damage and freezes enemy weapons. Only usable by Python in Portable Ops.

Other weapons include:

Stun Grenade - A grenade that temporarily blinds and knocks-out enemies.
Chaff Grenade - A grenade that temporarily disables electronics.
Claymore - An anti-personnel mine.

For more information about these grenades , check out MGS1, MGS2, MGS3 Weapons post.

===============================================================
After the cut scene with Cunningham and Roy, crawl into the air vent under the
bed infront of you; follow it until your outside of the cell and pick up the
MK22, then walk up to Roy's cell. After the cut scene with Roy go out through
the door to the left and knock out the gaurd standing to your left, walk
through the door in front of you and crawl under the small gate to the right.
Sneak up to the guard and knock him out then go to your right, wait for the
guard up ahead to start walking to the right then quickly run to the wall to
the left of the guard and hide. Wait for the guard to move to the right again
then sneak up to him and knock him out. Go up the small hill to your left and
either jump in the building through the window or go around and use the door,
if you jump through the window once you land quickly press the attack button
and keep attacking the guard until you knock him out then take the three
medical kits that are near the door. After that just go straight ahead to the
'X' on the far end. After the small cut scene go to the first fence opening you
see in front of you and hide against the wall, go to the right until you reach
the end of the wall and wait for the guard to look away then quickly run into
the opening of that wall you were hiding in and through the red door in front
of you then once inside to the other red door to your left then walk to the
'X'. Snake uses the radio to call Para-Medic after the talk with Para-medic,
Sigint calls Snake too. After the talk you somehow get a key to unlock Roy from
his cell and from then on Snake and Roy form the rebellious FOX unit.

Soviet Patrol Base Difficulty: 2/10 [0.2]
==================================================================
|Items: Ration x3, Magazine x2 | Special Items: Secret Documents |
==================================================================
From where you start off just go streight forward and turn to the right on the
big red crate next to you, then snake listens in to what the soldiers say, then
where the guards are climb up the crates where you were hiding then look to the
left, there are two magazines. back were the guards are sneak past them to the
right into the big ditch and walk forward you'll fine three rations then crawl
under the hole in front of the rations and hide on the wall to your left and
wait for the guard to the left of you to walk away look at him by moving the
camera around but don't peak or he'll catch you. Once he walks away run out
and climb the crates and head into the building to the right of you, then sneak
up to the guard standing in front of the table and knock him out and take the
secret document.

===============================================================
Soviet Patrol base (2) Difficulty: 1/10 [0.3]
===============================================================
So your just basically here just to recruit people for your unit just run
forward up to the last big set of crates and wait for the guard to walk away
from you, then sneak behind him and either beat the crap put out of him and
knock him out then take him back to the truck or grab him as a shield and take
him back to the truck if you do it this way you have to drop him in front of
the truck then pick him back up. put Jonathan (the guard you captured, I will
be calling him that from now on) in the Alpha team, from this point on you can
go ahead and capture as much people for your unit as you need or want.

================================================================
Weapons: M191A1
================================================================
Before you actually get to the base you find out that Roy was infected with
Tropical Malaria, Snake suggests that you go to the communication base to call
Para-Medic for the antidote, after the talk choose to go to the Comm. Base
again. This isn't so hard, from where you start go into the fence to your right
and over the small bridge then go into the door to your right for a M191A1. Go
out and hide on the wall in front of you and hide, more all the way to the end
of the wall tot he right and use the camera to look for the guard behind the
wall to walk away then just run off the red door on the top right of where you
are then go through the only door in that room that is in the top left, then go
to the door in front of you NOT to your right the one on the right leads to the
outside. Now just step on the 'X'. Well it seems like Roy has parasites,
mosquito eggs inside of him; and maybe even Jonathan and Snake have the
parasites in them too. Thanks to Jonathan you know where the antidote is so
head over to the hospital.

===============================================================
Hospital Difficulty: 2/10 [0.5]
===============================================================
Items: Ration x3, medical kit (S) x3
===============================================================
If you plan to capture some people here. It's not a good place because it takes
a while thanks to the big long wall; but you can if you want to. First start
off by running to the small spot of light in front of you there should be a
small hole for you to crawl through here also three rations. then head to the
wall of the building in front of you from their walk to the left until the
wall ends. There should be a door to your right, go in it. This part is going
to be a little tricky because of all of the doctors, start off by getting to
the other side of the desk either by climbing it or just crawling under the
hole on the right. Walk to the wall to you left and use the camera to see a
doctor on the ground on the other side of the wall sneak past it because if you
run she'll hear you and run away screaming; that will alert the guards and you
don't want to do that. now walk to the opening you see to the left and into the
room in front of you there are three medical kit (S) here. there are three more
medical kit (S) in the room next but there's a doctor guarding it you choose if
it's worth it or not. From the first room go outside through the black door to
your left then into the next building through the black door in front of you
once inside go upstairs. on the second floor if you jump out through the first
window to the left there's a medical kit on the roof but if you try to get it
you break the window this alerts the guards which isn't to bad at this point
because your almost to the antidote if you do get just jump back inside.
From where the stairs are go to the right until you reach the wall at the end
of the hall, then turn to the right and go into the door that's on your right
after that just step on the 'X'.

ou'll find some Ammo for you MK22, use your MK22 to make the guard in front of
you fall asleep, you can take the aura back to the truck if you want to in
front of where the guard was there are three Rations, run up the hill that's to
your left. once on the roof head over to the left side of the building that is
on your left side and hide behind the big crate in front of you wait for the
scientist that's ahead to walk away from you and tranquilize him. Run up the
hill that was to the left of the scientist from the end of the hill turn around
and you should see the 'X' go to it. Gene sounds like a nice guy huh? you don't
see much bad guys help out their dead soldiers. Jump down from where you're at
and go though the brown door in front of you then just follow the hallway all
the way to the 'X' again. Snake's pretty touchy with Elisa haha.

===============================================================
Recruiting Difficulty: 1/10 [0.7]
===============================================================
Now you have to recruit people for a spy unit the easiest and quickest place to
get some people is the Supply Depot so go there. Once you get their switch off
to Jonathan because he can drag people pretty quick. Climb up the crates to
your left and hide to the right wall of the building in front of you and move
all the way to the left until you get to the end of the wall wait for the
soldier to walk away from you and sneak up to him and beat him up don't use any
other way to knock him out this will cause the soldiers who's on the top of the
building to hear you and come running down once you knock out the first soldier
hide behind the opposite wall from the one that you were hiding on before and
wait for the other soldier to come once he does sneak up to him and knock him
out then drag one of them back to the truck and do the same for the other
soldier. Once you get to the crates just drop down the soldier should fall with
you then just repeat it until he's on the ground and that's it you need to use
Jonathan because Snake can't make the soldiers fall with him. you only need one
but if you want just get 5 soldiers so you can but one of them in each place
except the prison nothing happens there, go to other places to recruit more
soldiers. Once you get the spies put them in the Supply Depot and wait for them
to report something, once they do head over to the Supply Depot again.

================================================================
Supply Depot Difficulty: 2/10 [0.8]
================================================================
| Items: Medical Kit (S) x3 | Weapons: Scorpion |
Special Items: Secret Document (map)
================================================================
Climb up the crates in front of you then run to the other side of the building,
climb up the ladder in front of you then sneak over to the door ahead of you
and drop down from the railing. Run all the way to the end of the building to
the right there should be some machine and a crate with three medical kit (S)
at the end. once you get the kits run over to the right and up the small hill
then go to the big blue crate to the right of the map but don't get the map
yet, climb the crates until you get to the top of the blue crate and get the
Scorpion (this is one of the best weapons in the game) then go get the map on
the small crate across from you. From now on if you ever get a report from your
spies you have to do it by yourself I won't be covering the missions.

================================================================
Rail bridge Difficulty: 1/10 [0.9]
================================================================
This place is really easy, from where you start off just run up to the 'X'
that's to the right of the Rail Bridge, it doesn't matter if you get caught by
a soldier so don't worry about it. Not to hard huh? now after the mission if
you don't already have a spy on the Supply Depot, Research Lab, and the Soviet
Patrol base that's where you need to put explosives to create a distraction.

================================================================
Soviet Patrol base (3) Difficulty: 2/10 [1.0]
================================================================
Don't forget to bring TNT's for this mission, head forward until you hit the
big stack of crates to the left of where you start off then head over to the
blue crates and run to the other side of the building through the alley ahead
of the blue crates wait for the soldier to walk away from you and hide behind
the crate in front of you, wait for the soldier to walk away from you again not
to you and sneak up to him and hold him like you would hold someone your going
to interrogate and move him behind the crate to the left of you and chock him
until he gets knocked out then drop him here then where the soldier is standing
shoot him with you MK22 then head inside the building he was in front of. Set a
TNT right in front of the boxes and head behind the crate where the first
soldier is then press the attack button and watch the place blow.

================================================================
Research Lab (2) Difficulty: 1/10 [1.1]
================================================================
Weapons: TNT x5
================================================================
Remember to bring TNT's. Follow the path all the way up until you see the
crates at the top of the hills, if you didn't bring any TNT's there are 5 of
them inside the building that's next to you now peak out of the wall and you'll
notice there's a scientist ahead of you wait for him to walk away form you then
head inside the building to your right hide on the wall wait for the soldier on
the other side of the wall to walk away then choke him until he's knocked out
and drop him or stuff him in the locker haha. Then turn to the opening to the
right and head inside the door to the right and set the TNT next to the machine
then head back to where you knocked out the soldier and press the attack
button, then just sit back and watch the thing blow.

================================================================
Supply Depot (3) Difficulty: 0/10 [1.2]
================================================================
This is the easiest mission of all just turn around and walk a bit until you
see the soldier make him fall asleep with your Mk22 then go up to the truck on
the top right of you screen and set a TNT then take some steps back and set it
off, not much of an explosion though.

===============================================================
Rail Bridge (2) Difficulty: 1.5/10 [1.3]
===============================================================
Items: ration (S) x3, M37
===============================================================
Head to the right wall of the bridge and use the camera to see the gaurd on the
bridge and wait for the soldier to walk away from you then use your MK22 and
shoot him then go to the end of the bridge there's a soldier infront of you
shoot him with your MK22 if you go to the building on the right there's a M37
and if you go to the building on the right there are three Rations (S). then
head to the 'X'.

===============================================================
Harbor Difficulty: 4/10 [1.4]
===============================================================
Hide at the left end of the crates that are put together sorta of like a
staircase wait for the soldier on the left of the crates to walk away from you
then shoot him with your MK22 and do the same to the soldier on the rail bridge
ahead. head to the right of the rail bridge across you'll see a soldier, shoot
him with your Mk22 go to the other side of the rail bridge and shot him with
the Mk22 also. Cross over the rail bridge and head into the boat to the left of
you then head downstairs. After the cutscene head over to the crates behind the
cell the crazy guy was once on the top head over to the crate that looks
"strange".

===============================================================
Security Base Difficulty: 3/10 [1.5]
===============================================================
Special Items: Secret Document
===============================================================
Start off by going forward sta next to the wall on your left or you'll get
caught by the soldier. when you get to the end of the wall wait for him to say
"huh? what was that" or something like that then run back when he walks to the
spot you where at shoot him with your Mk22. then head inside the building to
the right of where the guard was, right when you enter the door hide behind the
first pilar you see because there might be a soldier right there use your
camera to see if he's there, if you don't see him wait for him to appear then
use your Mk22 to make him fall asleep then go to the left opening next to the
grey door that won't open and go into the opening that looks yellow and head up
the hills. Once on the second floor if you see a soldier at the end of the hall
shoot him with your Mk22 if not wail for him to walk away from you then shoot
him but if he sees you either change members or just run into the first door on
the left and get the secret document at the top right corner of the room, if
the soldier inside the room sees you don't worry just run to the secret
document.

===============================================================
Warhead Storage Difficulty: /10 [1.6]
===============================================================
Items: Thermal goggles
===============================================================
Bring a TNT, and look ahead to the boss fight so you know what to bring for
this mission. Go infront of the truck and into the door on the right then head
down the hills until you see a door, go inside the door. After the cutscene
head up the ladder on the right. ince you get to the top there's a Therm Google
go into the back you'll see a vent hole at the bottom go in it and keep forward
then turn left, then left again, then to the right, the head forward but don't
go to the right when you see the opening just stay forward then you should see
the end of the vent if you see a soldier walkinf by wait for him to walk to
your right once he does come out then head into the door on the right and go
all the way down the hills until you get to the bottom then go in the door
don't head up to the right. This part sucks because o matter which way you go
the alarms will sound so just run forward to the door on the other side of the
room then turn to the right and head down the hills and go into the door at the
bottom of the hills now there should be a female soldier that comes out from
the room ignore her and go to the 'X' at the top left of the room. After the
call from Roy set a TNT on the 'X'.

===============================================================
BOSS FIGHT: Python Stun difficulty: 6/10 [1.7]
Kill difficulty: 4/10
===============================================================
Python looks though huh? well he kinda is, and he's also kind of annoying
if you want to unlock him as a playable character you need to stun him
if you kill him you won't unlock him.

things to bring for stun kill: Mk22, Ammo for Mk22, ration

things to bring for kill: Shotgun, Machine gun or sub-machine gun, medical kits

Python's attacks:

body liquid nitrogen: Everytime you shoot Python he'll shoot out his Liquid
Nitrogen and if it touches you the weapon your holding freezes and you lose
some stamina if this happenes to you just run around until your weapon
defrosts, it shouldn't happen to you as long as you keep your distance from
him.

LN G: Sometimes he'll throw his Liquid Nitrogen Grenades those will freeze your
weapon and take some of your stamina also they're pretty easy to avoid but if
you get hit by one just run around until your weapon defrosts.

Machine Gun: his main weapon that he uses on you is his machine gun as long as
you keep moving he won't hit you

===============================================================
Stun Kill
===============================================================
Just move around him and shoot him with your Mk22 and if you get a chance try
shooting him in the head that makes his stamina drop more and if your out of
ammo your just going to either have to change members or just use your CQC to
hit him.

===============================================================
Health Kill
===============================================================
Same as the stun kill but this one's just alot easier because you can just
shoot him with your guns but also when you have a chance try shooting him in
the head it drains his health quicker. After the fight put about two spies in
the hospital and wait for you to get a report from them telling you about the
Airport

===============================================================
Air port Difficulty: 2/10 [1.8]
===============================================================
Start by going to the last silver crates ahead of you and hide wait for the
soldier to walk away from you then shoot him with your Mk22 go inside the
Airport and hide behind the first pilar you see infront of you and wait for the
soldier to walk away from you then shoot him with your Mk22 after you shoot him
run up to the staircase and use the camera to see the soldier on the other side
and shoot him with the Mk22 then go upstairs and head inside the last door on
the other side of the room and shoot the soldier infront of the window with
your Mk22. Head into the opening on the other side of the room and head to
to the left and go inside the first red door you see on your right and head
up the stairs this parts a little hard right when you get to the top take out
your Mk22 an shoot the soldier before he sees you if he does see you make him
go to sleep before he calls HQ then hide behind the huge pillar in the middle
of the room and sneak up to the officer and interogate him.

===============================================================
Silo Entrance Difficulty: 2/10 [1.9]

with your Mk22 then go out to the left side of the building until you hit the
end of the wall then go to the right then go to the other side of the field.
look to the right you should see the 'X'.

Boss fight: Null Difficulty: 4/10 [2.0]
===============================================================
Null isnt to hard as long as you keep your distance his Machete is really
deadly.

Attacks:

Machete Attack: If you get close to him he'll attack you with his Machete as
long as you keep your distance from him you'll be ok from this move.

Machete Attack 2: sometimes he'll jump at you or run at you and attack you with
his machete just roll away when he does that and you'll be fine.

Machete Defense: Everytime you shoot ay him he'll use his Machete to deflect
your bullets just shoot at him when he's off guard.

Uzi: When your far away from him he'll use his Uzi to shoot at you

as long as you keep shooting at him you should do ok in this he isn' to hard to
beat at least not compared to the other bosses. Usually the best time to attack
him is when he isn't aiming for you with his Uzi or when he's blocking with his
Machete

===============================================================
Silo Entrance (2) Difficulty: 2/10 [2.1]
===============================================================
Go up the railings and hide behind the crate wait for the soldier to come out
and turn away from you and sneak up to him and place him in a hold then choke
him until he gets knocked out. go down the railings on the other side and stay
clear from all the red doors of the buildings, if you get to close they'll open
and the soldiers inside will see you. Go through the path you took to get to
the 'X' but stop at the first crate amd jump off the opening in the wall to the
left you'll see an opening behind you with yellow lights go in it and hide
behind the first crate then use your camera to spot the soldier on the other
side, wait for him to walk away from you then sneak up to him and interogate
him. It looks like Snake is in the guest house. After this Mission put your
spies into the guest house.

Go down the hill on the right side of where your standing stop at the end of
the wall to left there should be a hill on the left go around it to the other
side of the building on the other side there should be a vent on the left of
the stacked up crates go in it; go into the left opening and then into the
opening to the right of the Chaff Grenades then exit through the opening
infront of you and head into the door and go downstairs and go to the left
on the 'X'.

===============================================================
Plant Difficulty: 1/10 [2.4]
===============================================================
Bring a Mk22, shotgun, machine gun and some Medical kits for this one.
Move a little to the left with out moving forward until you see the two
soldiers on the left side of the building far away try your best to
shoot them down with your Mk22 there should be about three of them
get closer if you need to but if any of them see you hide behind the truck then
wait until the heat dies off. Once they're all asleep head to the bottom part
of where they were and shoot the soldier ahead of you if there isn't one just
wait until you see one. Once he's asleep go to where he was and look to the
left, you should see the 'X' there.

==============================================================================
Boss Fight: Metal Gear XANA/Ursula Difficulty: 3/10 [2.5]
==============================================================================
Metal Gear XANA isn't to hard to beat so long as you stay behind it

Attacks:

Missles: One of it's main weapons is it's missles it will shoot six missles at
you at once but as long as you keep moving you can dodge that attack

Machine gun: Another of it's attack is it's Machine gun everyonce in a while
it'll shoot at you with it same as the missiles as long as you move around
you should be okay.

Smash: When it flies up into the air keep away from it because when it lands it
will slam down and cause an explosion and turn he screen blinding white
(My eyes, >.<) like a Stun Granade.

Flame: I don't know if this is an actual attack but if you get under XANA's
blue flame next to it's legs it'll hurt you a bit.

Form 1:
Shoot at XANA's legs, once all four are out it'll transform into
it's second form

Form 2: This part is a little harder but not so much all you need to do is
avoid it's missles and it's bullets and shoot at it when it opens it's wing
things if you really need help search around for a RGP-7 it's behind a metal
pilar next to some boxes. Poor Jonathan *salutes to jonathan* R.I.P Jonathan
(haha) After the mission put 4 spies into the Ravine and make half a day pass
or go into a mission and abort it until you get a report from the spies in the
Ravine.

building where he was but don't go inside it, move a little to the left of
where the red barrel is and jump of the edge, then jump down the edge ahead
of you again and cross over the pipe bridge there should be some ammo around

either take the ladder or just jump off walk to the left and go to the rock
you'll fall off the edge and hang from it, move to the left until you clear
the rock then press the action button to climb back up. Then go to the left
there will be two paths ahead the one to the left takes you up to the second
floor and the one to the left takes you to the left, take the one to the left.

to the other side then go to the right the 'X' should be there.

===============================================================
Power Substation Difficulty: 3/10 [2.7]
===============================================================
Head up the hill behind you then turn to the left and hide behind the big red
crate to the left of you and hide at the end shoot the soldier ahead then head
down the hill to the right of the crate to the right of the soldier once at the
bottom look to the right there should be a soldier around there shoot him with
the Mk22 then head forward until you reach the end of the wall to your left
then go to the left of the wall until your on the other side of the building
there should be another female soldiers on the other side shoot her down
with your Mk22 then head up the hill to the top left of the building once you
get to the top keep heading forward until you reach the end. Go into the red
door on the left then just keep heading the path inside until you see a left
turn with yellow lines on the ground turn there then keep going until you see
another left opening take it and head to the door infront not the on the left
you should see the 'X' in the room.

===============================================================
Power Substation (2) Difficulty: 3/10 [2.8]
===============================================================
Bring the Time Bomb, Machine gun, shotgun and some medical kits with you this
time. Just take the same route you took the last time to get there. But
instead of stepping on the 'X' put the Time bomb on it.

===============================================================
Boss Fight: Null (2) Difficulty: 4/10 [2.9]

===============================================================
Silo Entrance (3) Difficulty: 1/10 [3.0]
===============================================================
Alright you have 5 minutes to get into the silo. so better make this quick if
you get seen by an enemy keep running and ignore them.
Go up the railings infront of you and go down the other railings on the other
ide of the railings you went up by then go back to the little crate path behind
the building on the right and head forward once you pass the little crate path
to the spot where the 'X' was when you first fought Null from there head to the
right and go down the hill behind the blue crate. Welcome to the Silo Complex

===============================================================
Silo Complex Difficulty: 3.5/10 [3.1]
===============================================================
Items: medical Kit x6
===============================================================
make sure you have an empty space in your eqiptment menu. Now this part is a
little complicated, before you go up the ramp ahead of you call these numbers
on your communicator.

1) 145.75
2) 147.42
3) 148.51

Now head up the ramps and hide behind the pilar to the left of the green crate
somw times while walking around you'll hear someone say "what's that?" or
something like that but don't worry about it yet nothing will happen once
our behind the pilar shoot the Soldier ahead of you with your Mk22 when he
walks away from you. then some other soldier should see the other soldier
laying on the ground wait for him to go up to the sleeping soldier and
shoot him with your Mk22 now they're both sleeping together (haha).
now walk to the building on your left and go inside the door at the left end of
the building and jump to the other platform to the right of you. Then look to
the left you'll see a big stack of crates ahead of you, jump to them and go and
move a little forward you'll get the 'Key E' jump off the crates and climb the
ladder on the top left from where you are. go outside the building and walk to
the right you'll see a door with a green line on it left of the crate with oil
barrels on it. Go inside the door with the green line now stp right when you
enter the building now you'll need to be a little quick here. you'll see that
there are some openings in the wall to your left seperated by walls on the
third opening there is a soldier once you get to the thrid one start shooting
if he begins to run away roll at him to knock him down then just beat him up
until he's knocked out. Once your done with that soldier go into the opening
to the left of the room and go through the door infront of you and into the
door to the left of the room you just entered, and go up the ramps to the left
once you get to the top go into the door on the right and hide behind the crate
infront of you use your camera to see the two soldiers ahead of you once they
are looking away shoot them with your Mk22 if any of them see you beat them up
before they can call for back up once they're knocked out go into the door at
the right of the room and go into the door across the bridge go to the left and
hide behind the left side of the crates ahead of you wait for the soldier to
stand infront of you then shoot him with your Mk22 then to the right of the
door ahead of you there is an opening and a camera with a machine gun run
fast so it won't shoot you once your in the other room take the door to the
right and head up the ramps then go through the only door in thr room past
the bridge and into the other room drop 'Key E' and pick up the second
'Key E' then go out of that room back to the railing bridge and stand right
outside of the door use the camera to look to the left then down you'll see
another railing platform there, jump down to it. There are two ways you can
go if you go through the door behind you there are six medical kits if you
want them then go get them if not go through the door infront of you then
down the ramps and stand on the 'X'.

===============================================================
Boss fight: Cunningham Difficulty: 6/10 [3.2]
===============================================================
Bring two Machine guns/Sub Machine guns and medical kits.
Now Cunningham is a little annoying because you hardly have any space to move
around in.

Attacks:

AK-47: One of his main attacks is his AK-47 he shoots you with it every once in
a while but as long as you keep moving around you should be able to avoid it.

Missles: when ever he sais "Dodge this" he'll shoot a missle at you make sure
you move away from where you are standing the moment he sais "Dodge this" or
he'll hit you with his missle. Sometimes he will shoot six missles at you
just move around avoiding them and you should be ok.

Granades: He'll throw granades at you everyonce in a while just move away from
your current spot when he does and you'll be ok.

Traps: He'll throw little traps at you and if you touch them they'll blow up
and you'll lose a fair ammount of your HP so watch out for those, if they
start to build up and they're all around the elevator shoot them and they'll
blow up.

Laser: Another of his Attacks is his Laser he'll shoot it at you and if you get
hit you lose a fair amount of HP but it isn't to hard to dodge so as long as
you keep mving you should be ok.

Lock onto him and shoot at his flying thing until he comes down this is the
best time to shoot at him and give him a couple of headshots just repeat this
procces and you should beat him with out losing a lot of HP.

1. Shoot his flying thing down
2. Shoot at him while he's down and get a couple of headshots in
3. Repeat

===============================================================
Boss Fight: Gene Difficulty: 8/10 [3.3]
===============================================================
Well this is the final boss, Gene. Bring a M10 and ammo for it and a AK-47
these are the best weapons you can use for Gene.

Attacks

Voice: The screen will turn a little blue and you'll see Gene's face, he uses
his voice to attack you, you won't lose much HP with this attack just 2 or 3
but as long as you lock onto him and keep shooting at him with the M10 you
should stop him.

Bowie Knife: His main attack is the Bowie Knife he'll throw small Knifes at you
that are pretty hard to avoid if your locked onto him when he shoots the Bowie
Knifes a you you'll most likely get hit so I suggest you don't lock onto him
while he's throwing his knifes and just run around until he's done then shoot
him a bit.

Power Charge: If you see him stop moving and start to glow yellowish orange
move! or he'll slam you hard and you'll lose a lot of HP hide behind something
or just run around.

The best time to attack him is after his Power charge when he's taking a rest
try shooting him in the head so he loses more HP. Also attack him while he's
not throwing his Bowie knifes. All in all Gene isn't to hard to defeat so you
should be ok as long as you attack him when he's done.

Other Recruitable Characters

Raikov appears in Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops as an unlockable character, found by placing spies in the Western Wilderness before rescuing Naked Snake. Raikov had lost his position due to his abusive ways against soldiers (a reference to MGS3, where the player could attack Soviet soldiers without reprise when disguised as Raikov, as he was "just that kind of guy" from EVA's observations), and was imprisoned, to be released by Naked Snake and his team.

A spy for the PLA who assisted Snake in Snake Eater. Eva joins Snake's squad after completing an optional mission.

Teliko is a hidden character in Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops who joins Naked Snake's team. The player can unlock her by having a Metal Gear Acid save file on their memory stick after completing the game, restarting a new game or saving the game at the first opportunity. Her appearance in the game is an easter egg and has no bearing in the story.

Venus is an unlockable character in Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus.

Sokolov

Despite his apparent death in Snake Eater, it is revealed in Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops that he survived and was put in a prison camp in Russia.

While imprisoned, the camp was secretly infiltrated by Gene of the FOX unit, who rescued Sokolov and succeeded in bringing him back to the United States and reuniting him with his family. While in the United States, Sokolov's previous assumptions came true, and he was recruited by Gene to design and build the first official Metal Gear project, based on a heavily modified version of the blueprints in Granin's office. Gene brought him to the San Hieronymo Peninsula to build Metal Gear RAXA and the ICBMG, while Sokolov secretly planned to rebel against Gene, who he had realized as a maniac.

When Naked Snake, now known as Big Boss, was captured by the remaining members of FOX, Sokolov saw his opportunity to rebel. After Big Boss escaped and began looking for ways to stop Gene's rebellion, Sokolov contacted him under the name "Prividyenie" (Ghost) . Ghost thanked Snake for taking care of Volgin six years prior, during the events of Operation Snake Eater.

After Big Boss destroyed RAXA, Sokolov emerged from the shadows and told him that RAXA was only a test model. Later, when Big Boss attempted to disable the ICBMG, Sokolov assisted him, telling where it's armor was at it's weakest. After the mission, Sokolov was presumably reunited with his family and retired from rocket science, for the better of the world.

Colonel Skowronski

Colonel Skowronski was a loyal colonel of the Red Army and a former fighter pilot during World War II.

He was originally the commander of the San Hieronymo base, but after Gene started his rebellion, Skowronski's men turned on him. Skowronski later attempted to kill Python, but failed due to Python's armor, with Python proceeding to lock him up in a cell, freezing the door shut. Big Boss talked to him after Python left. Skowronski mentioned that he had been a pilot in WWII and if he had a Mig or a Sukhoi he would be able to kill Gene himself. After listening to his drunken rantings Big Boss shoots the lock, releasing him. Later on, he attempted to kill Gene by shooting at him with the minigun that was attached to Metal Gear RAXA. Ursula then threw Skowronski from the cockpit to his death by using her telekinetic powers.
