Ed was one of the members of Rat Patrol Team 01 involved in the Guns of the Patriots Project of 2014. Ed was the Rat Patrol's point-man and sniper during the events of the Guns of the Patriots Project.
Snake first encountered Ed and the rest of the Rat Patrol squad during the events of Liquid Sun. After Snake was held up by Johnny, he was able to overpower the bumbling soldier and snatch his weapon, to which Ed, Jonathan, Meryl Silverburgh, the team's commander, sprung to action. Shortly after, Rat Patrol and Snake were accosted by a battalion of Liquid Ocelot's personal army, the FROGS. During the battle, Ed made use of his impressive sniping abilities, picking off FROGS with great accuracy and distance while Snake and the others assisted in the escape. Making their way out of the mansion rendezvous point, they eventually convened in an underground parking garage before going their separate ways.
Later, during the events of Third Sun, Ed and the rest of the Rat Patrol attempted to arrest Liquid Ocelot, resulting in his deactivation of the SOP system, causing their weapons to seize up and not fire. Ed and Jonathan were both badly injured when the Rat Patrol's boat capsized, however they were able to survive.
